A full list of educational links that might help with any problem or issue Naval Families are having. You can also find links to websites offering information on the quality of schools and other related organisations.

Advisory Centre for Education (ACE)  – A national charity which provides independent advice for parents and carers of children aged 5-16 in state-funded education.

Children’s Education Advisory Service (CEAS) – A tri-Service organisation funded by the MOD, providing information and support to Service families on all aspects of the education of their children in the UK and overseas. CEAS is part of the Directorate Children and Young People.

Childcare VouchersChildcare vouchers are a government initiative designed to help working parents pay for childcare. You can convert part of your salary into vouchers saving the tax and National Insurance you would normally pay on that amount. Sodexo run the Armed Forces Childcare Voucher Scheme.

Direct Gov – Government website, which lists schools, nurseries and childcare facilities throughout the country.

Directorate Children and Young People (DCYP) – The MOD’s tri-Service lead for the delivery of statutory services for children and young people within the Armed Forces community worldwide.  DCYP is the point of contact for Other Government Departments, Devolved Administrations, various organisations, charities and Families Federations, and it aims to champion Service children and young people by influencing and interpreting statutory policy. Service Children’s Education and the Children’s Education Advisory Service both sit within DCYP.

Welfare Information Office – Contact your nearest Welfare Information Office to find out about education, childcare and support facilities in your local area.

Independent Panel for Special Education Advice – Offers free and independent legal advice and support in England and Wales.

Learn Direct – Adult education courses and qualifications.

MOD website – An excellent and comprehensive source of information on all education issues.

Naval Education and Training Service (NETS) – There are NETS Learning Centres in the three main Naval Bases; Portsmouth, Devonport and Clyde (Faslane) with a satellite centre in Rosyth. These centres offer a range of facilities for Service personnel and their families.

Ofsted – Education Regulatory Body (School Inspection Reports).

Plymouth Locality and Schools Out – This is a useful website run by the Plymouth Parent Partnership, which is full of information on events and services in the Plymouth area. It holds a directory covering numerous subjects such as childcare and support groups. The website offers advice on local schooling options and several schools have their own page to inform parents of latest news.

Service Children’s Education  – Providing education for Service children outside of the UK; running over 30 schools worldwide. Service Children’s Education is part of the Directorate Children and Young People.

SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) – Helpful information on special needs and disabilities.

Sure Start – ChildcareLink – Provides information on different types of childcare and early education facilities in your local area.

The Care Commission – Regulators of all Childcare and Early Education providers in Scotland.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) – Leads work across Government to improve outcomes for children, including work on children’s health and child poverty.

The Independent Schools Directory – Provides a comprehensive list of Independent Schools in the UK and reviews of their performance.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate – Access the inspection reports of Independent Schools.

The UK Boarding Schools Guide – For information on boarding schools in the UK.
