Dentistry Message from Second Sea Lord - The new Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral Charles Montgomery CBE ADC, issued a message to Service personnel and their families regarding access to NHS dentists, in which he directs people to the NFF and our website.

“ The Naval Service is aware that there remains a perception that primary dental care is not available by the NHS in the wider community.  However, the “perception lag” in the population is improving as NHS Direct is becoming better known.

In England and Wales patients may access NHS Direct to find NHS dental care in their location.

The NHS Direct website is: www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk and telephone number is: 0845 4647. Where NHS dentistry is recognised as being in limited supply, there are dental access centres available.

In Scotland, patients may access NHS24.  The website address is: www.NHS24.com and the telephone number is: 08454 242424.

Naval Service families who continue to meet with NHS dentistry access difficulties should report this through either the Divisional chain or by contacting the Naval Families Federation. This will enable accurate data recording and subsequent reporting to the Chief Dental Officer. "
