Have you Registered your Child for the Service Pupil Premium?
Personnel with children in State Schools in England have until 16 January 2014 to notify schools of their children’s eligibility for the Service Pupil Premium. The Premium is part of the Armed Forces Covenant; it provides extra funding to help schools support the unique challenges children with parents in the Armed Forces can face. The Premium is currently £300 per Service child. Click for details.
Future Reserves 2020: Progress Report
Targets for the future planned growth of the Reserve Forces have been published. While challenging, the targets are achievable. Underpinning the plans is an improved Reservist offer. Click for details.
Forces Pension Society: Campaign for Service Widows
The Government has rejected the case for all Service widows to be treated equally after the introduction of the new Armed Forces Pension Scheme in April 2015. The Forces Pension Society is calling upon the Government to give this issue its due political attention. Click here for details. New Employment Model: Second Phase of Consultation - Have you received your survey?
A second phase of consultation with personnel on the New Employment Model (NEM) is underway. A targeted survey has been issued to 16,000 pre-selected personnel, made up of a representative sample of Officers and Other Ranks across the three Services. Surveys were e-mailed around 11 November, hard copies should have been received around 18 November. If you have received a survey, we urge you to complete it; this is an opportunity to have your say on the most thorough review of Terms and Conditions of Service in a generation. Trauma Risk Management for Veterans
A new project, “TRiM for Veterans” (T4V), has been established to provide another tier of support to the Veteran community. The project will be run as a pilot scheme for 30 months and will support all Royal Marines Veterans. If the pilot is successful, the scheme will be expanded to include Royal Navy Veterans. With over 850 UK registered charities wishing to assist Veterans, the challenge for the T4V project is to accurately identify the correct resource and help the Veteran to access it quickly. Armed Forces Covenant Projects Benefit from Funding
Service personnel, Veterans and their families are set to benefit from £65 million that is being spent on projects to help improve their lives. The money will be invested over the course of this financial year into various life-changing Armed Forces Covenant projects all over the UK. Click here for details.
LIBOR Fines Fund a Further 24 Armed Forces Charities and Good Causes
The Government has announced that more causes and charities supporting the Armed Forces community are to benefit from the £35 million Armed Forces Covenant (LIBOR) fund. Over £12 million will be shared between 24 organisations in the third tranche of allocations from the LIBOR fines pot. Click here to see the list of selected organisations.
The Night Before Christmas: HMS RICHMOND
They are mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters and while they may be away for Christmas they haven’t forgotten about their loved ones back home. HMS RICHMOND will be carrying out the South Atlantic patrol over the festive period and so her company have sent back a touching video message, reading the poem “The Night before Christmas”.
